The MTMUMC Missions Committee is once again renting a garden plot in the Benson Crump Community Gardens, 624 North St. for the season which opens on April 1st and runs through October 31st. There are approximately 200 plots at the garden, some of which are designated for produce to be grown for donation to food pantries and other areas of need. The gardens host a fantastic Halloween party each fall  with horse drawn hay rides, costume parade and DJ, and there’s a special garlic planting time late in the season for those interested – we did this last year!!!

Our church plot will have six teams that are each responsible for tending the garden four different weeks throughout the main season (May-Oct) on a six-week rotation. Please reach out to Rachel Merva (203-641-5088 / rmerva@optonline.net) or Leigh Bak (203-215-0470 / leighb619@gmail.com) if you are interested in volunteering so we can start filling up the teams. Responsibilities consist of watering and weeding the garden, picking & delivering produce that’s ripe & flowers in bloom, and replanting as needed. All supplies will be on hand at the garden, but you should have a pair of gardening gloves. There is ample parking, and our plot is conveniently located right next to a picnic table and not far from the facilities/Port-a-Potty". Please take this opportunity to get outdoors, spend time in nature, and keep moving – all while growing nourishing food & beautiful flowers to share!

All interested parties are invited to a tour and walk through at the gardens on Saturday, April 15th at 9:30AM.
